ABOUT
There is a moment at every wedding, fleeting and unhurried, that most people never notice. Jim has built a career finding it.
His creative story did not begin with a camera. Music came first, years spent with drumsticks in hand and a guitar around his neck, navigating the highs and lows of the music industry. But when that chapter closed in his mid-twenties, photography did not just replace music. It absorbed everything music had taught him about rhythm, timing, and feeling.
Today, Jim is one of Charlotte’s most sought-after wedding photographers, equally at home in the sun-drenched streets of Charleston as he is at celebrations across the globe. His work carries the unmistakable influence of travel and cinema, a visual language shaped as much by the films he admires as the places he has been.
The couples who find their way to Jim tend to share a certain quality. They know who they are, both as individuals and together. They are adventurous spirits, ready to throw an unforgettable party surrounded by the people they love most. Jim meets them exactly there, moving through the day with quiet precision, never interrupting the moment, always preserving it.
He is clear about one thing: a wedding day belongs to the couple, not the photographer. Every decision he makes is designed to give people more time to laugh, to dance, and to simply be present. You set the tone and we make the most of it.
Wedding weekends pass in the blink of an eye.
APPROACH
I liI think labels like “fine art,” “light and airy,” and “candid documentary” are kind of silly. We photographers use them mostly for search results, in my opinion. Many of us don’t fall 100% into any one camp. The truth is, wedding photography requires just about every type and style of photography under the sun, which is why it’s such a challenge to get right, but such a rewarding one.
That said, I approach the wedding day with a documentary philosophy whenever possible, meaning I find inspiration in you simply living your life on your wedding day. I think this is important because when you look back on these images in 20 years, you’ll see and remember the genuine experiences and people of the day, not the photography I manufactured to make it pretty. Life is so much more than pretty. I want emotion: sadness, immense joy, pleasure, laughter, shots with your friends, all the good stuff.

Not sure how many Painkillers I’d had at this point to think it was a good idea to go swimming with my Leica. Got the shot though!
ABOUT FAQ

It’s one of my favorite things to do. Visiting a new place and meeting new people for such an amazing occasion is hard to beat.

Your concerns are totally normal and it’s what I hear from almost all of my couples. If you can smile, laugh, and play with your significant other you’ll have nothing to worry about once we get going.

While I love film for it’s character and timeless look, I only shoot on digital cameras these days. Working on digital cameras allows me to be more present as the workflow is more streamlined and simple. I will always edit my images to mimic and resemble film, which is the best of both worlds.
